Maksym Varenyk is a Ukrainian award-winning filmmaker with a mission to redefine LGBTQ+ representation on film and television. Before transitioning into his film career, Maksym was a competitive figure skater and earned silver and bronze medals in numerous National Ukrainian championships and showcased his talent internationally in world-class ice skating shows.
He moved to the US in 2017, where he discovered his passion for filmmaking and storytelling.
He studied directing and writing at UCLA Extension and recently, he completed a film study program in Italy where he shot his latest short film "Vermilion." His directorial debut short film, "The Outcoming," has been selected in numerous film festivals and collected nearly half a million views online. Since then, he has written, directed, shot, and edited several short films, commercials, and music videos. His work has been screened domestically and internationally in festivals like the Outfest, Out On Film, Queerbee LGBT Film Festival, Reeling:
The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, and dozens of others.
